Visiting canada

In 2017, Canada celebrates its 150th birthday as a country and Lonely Planet has named it the number one country to visit this year. Naturally, we’ve arranged this especially for our wedding and guests. For those guests visiting from the UK we’d encourage you to visit some of the fantastic nearby cities
or head to the country to experience what Canada is most famous for – natural beauty and wonders.

We’ve listed some suggestions below of places to go and things to see but if you have any specific plans and would like some recommendations please do let us know.
Nearby destinations

  • Montreal – Approximately 1 hour flight to French Canada and a taste of Europe across the pond
  • Ottawa – Less than one hour flight to our nation’s capital
  • Vancouver – Approximately a 5 hour flight to the west coast
  • New York City – Ok not in Canada but a great option and only 1.5 hours flight away
  • Niagara Falls – One of the Seven Wonders of the World and a 1.5 hour drive from Toronto. The falls themselves and the famous tour ‘Maid of the mist’ are well worth your time. However, the town itself is a bit like Blackpool. Instead, we’d recommend staying (or combining with your day) a trip to the Niagara wine region, the home of ice wine.
  • Cottage country – Canadians love to get out of the city and spend time by the lake. Lake Muskoka and Lake Simcoe are 2.5 hours’ drive and 1 hour drive respectively from Toronto. Consider booking to a resort of renting a cottage to get some Canadian style R&R by the lake
